who are we?

we are one of recaptcha competitors -- and this is a free-speech / gripe-site.

gripe-sites on trademarked domains

while we do not believe google has a valid trademark on 'recaptcha' term, until somebody proves that on the court or google officially abolish it, we must assume it has.

a free-speech / gripe-site on trademarked domains must not be used in a 'bad faith' -- what includes promotion of competing products and services.
and under certain legal interpretations disclosing of our identity here might be construed as a promotion of our own competing captcha product or service.
it frustrates us indeed, but those are the rules of the game.

otherwise, google may start udrp proceeding, or sue, what:

• at best, will just drain our time and financial resources on unproductive trademark fight.
• at worst, might lead to the loss of the domain, and to numerous other less than pleasant outcomes.

if we ever meet google on the court, we prefer it to be over their cpc and organic search monopoly abuses.

we do not believe google would sue

there are several reasons for that:

• an udrp proceeding, or a lawsuit, might provide recaptcha.sucks and its antitrust cause an enormous amount of free publicity -- a gift google might prefer not to give.
• recaptcha (word) trademark validity is debatable, and on a thin ice that might easily break -- a result google might prefer not to have.
• like us, google also does not seem to have the 'sue first, think later' gene built into their dna.
• they could sue us already if they ever wanted to.

but our google-related beliefs were mostly wrong

however, we also used to believe that:

• google will not mess with our product adwords ads.
• google will not mess with organic search results on captcha-related searches.
• google will assign somebody to fix those issues soon after we publish the first version of the recaptcha.sucks site.
• google will not mess with our recaptcha.sucks adwords ads.

and every single time google proved us that our beliefs were wrong.

better safe than sorry

because of the reasons explained above, we plan to keep recaptcha.sucks strictly within the free-speech / gripe-sites boundaries; erring on the safe side.
so not to give to any trigger-happy lawyer retained by google any chance to preemptively slap(p) us with anything meaningful; in an attempt to sue us to death.

that way the validity of recaptcha (word) trademark does not matter.
but unfortunately, it also means that our identity will continue to be undisclosed here.

if you are a web-native journalist, wishing to get in touch, we doubt you are going to have a hard-time figuring out who we are anyway.
if you are a google executive, and you do not know who we are yet, consider starting asking around why you do not know yet, and what it is all about.
